AND 1: slam dunk competition, from way back 1987

i was only 3 years old when this slam dunk competition happened. wow. and looking at the dunks (a former colleague of mine might even say "i'd rather watch paint dry"), listening to the commentary, observing the players' "siete" haircut, and hearing the prizes at stake, this must to be the slam dunk competition that defined their era.

what i find interesting in this video is that it featured some of my favorite philippine basketball players of all time: alvin patrimonio, nelson asaytono, and vergel meneses. in the end, "the aerial voyager" won the competition (the hang time in his final dunk was unbelievable... at least during that time in the philippines), but his stardom has only just begun. 8 years later, he would win the most valuable player award in the pba after leading sunkist to a near grand-slam finish that year.
